Course Description: This class is intended for anyone who has already been enrolled to do Supported Employment services and has previously taken the pre-service class. Sometimes, after a job coach has been "in the field" for a period of time, he or she may have important questions. These questions are often related to how to do an assessment, how to properly job develop, what an employer wants and the best ways to support an individual once they begin working.

This class is specifically designed to allow extra time for questions.

The class will cover:

Basic Social Security

Your consumer, Sam or Sally is now working 35 hours a week and they have SSDI. Are you wondering how their new employment may impact Their Social Security Benefits? Do you find understanding Social Security benefits a little confusing? Ever wonder how Social Security Benefits impact on an individual going to work? Do you want to understand what a job coach should be doing once a person obtains a job? Want to understand what to do if the individual has a job and no job coach? Have you ever wondered how to protect an individual's Medicaid if they go to work? Do you want to know what to "watch out for" once an individual goes to work? Then, you may be interested in a four hour class offered to Waiver Support Coordinators, Supported Living Coaches & Supported Employment Specialist interested in learning the basics about SSI and SSDI benefits. This in not an advanced course but a "nuts and bolts" approach to how going to work can affect a persons benefits. The course will emphasize: The basics of SSI. The basics of SSDI including: Trial work Periods, The Extended Period of Eligibility, Grace months & Substantial Gainful Activity. Also included will be a look at: PASS Plans, Income Limits for the Medicaid Waiver, IRWES, Subsidies, The Ticket To Work, Student Earned Income Exclusion and Blind Work Expense.

The Work Opportunity Tax Credit

Want an extra way to help obtain jobs for individuals in a tough economy? Because economic times are hard, employers are sometimes reluctant to hire. However, the Work Opportunity Tax Credit can be a considerable help. If numbers aren't your strength, don't worry, the Work Opportunity Tax Credit actually isn't hard to understand or do. The instructor will explain everything and answer all your questions. Large corporations such as Publix and Winn Dixie automatically take advantage of the WOTC because they realize how important it is. The tax credit is not something you have to offer if your are a job coach but, as mentioned, in a difficult economy, the Work Opportunity Tax Credit can sway a potential employer towards hiring an individual with a disability when the employer might be hesitant.
