Area 3 > Right of the Month
The right of the month for August concludes the Area 3 Agency for Persons with Disabilities Steering/ Advisory Committees "Right of the Month" project. The Right of the Month project was started to try to increase our consumers' knowledge of their rights. This was a large task to perform so the committee formed a sub committee made up of committee members to come up with twelve rights to focus on. After some debate the sub committee came up with a list of twelve rights and presented them to the full committee who approved them. The sub committee was than asked to go back and work on finding websites that highlighted each month’s right of the month. The sub committee has worked each month to try to provide websites with a variety of information on each right of the month. We hope that you have found the information on the websites useful, and have used them to increase our consumers' knowledge of their rights.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Steering Committee for their guidance in choosing which rights to highlight. I would like to also like to thank the members of the Sub Committee, Shelley Voelker, Joyce Daniels, Jeffrey Frazier, Larry Smail, and Patrick Mulvihill who worked each month to bring you websites that you could use in presenting the right of the month to our consumers.

Area 3 Quality Steering Committee
The Area 3 Quality Leadership Steering and Advisory Committees as part of the APD Quality Management initiative, has begun a twelve (12) month campaign to promote
the rights of consumers. The Quality Leadership Committees completed a survey of Area 3 individuals involved with APD services to determine
what rights were most important and impacting for them. The Quality Leadership Committees then appointed advisory groups to research various
ways to promote these rights to providers and consumers alike.
The goal is to assist providers in teaching and promoting these rights to the consumers they serve in an understandable and meaningful way.
Further, it will aid in consumer's awareness and understanding of their rights. The twelve (12) month Rights Campaign is launching September 2006.
All APD staff, providers and support coordinators in Area 3 are expected to take every opportunity available to assist the people they serve to understand
their rights. The focus on one individual right per month will help to assist us on keeping this mission in the forefront. APD staff are available
for guidance as needed. Various informational and training websites are also available (see Useful Links).
