National Provider Identifier (NPI) for Waiver Providers

Medicaid is not requiring waiver providers to submit claims using a National Provider Identifier (NPI). Providers who bill Medicaid for state plan services and waiver services will receive a letter and a user name and password that will allow them to submit their NPIs on Medicaid's NPI website. They may bill Medicaid with the NPI for state plan and waiver services as long as they have submitted the NPI to this website according to the instructions on the website. Providers that only bill waiver services did not receive a letter; however if the provider has an NPI and would want to use it when billing Medicaid, they can call our NPI help desk at (866) 496-6493. The help desk will help them crosswalk their NPI to the Medicaid provider number.
