Fort Lauderdale Woman Exemplifies Dependability

Pamela Taylor gets high praise from her boss at the Marshall's store in Sunrise. The longtime employee has been a stock processor for 14 years.

"Pamela is a good team member. She gets along fine with everybody. She's always pleasant," says Assistant Manager Rebecca O'Toole. "We don't have to give her too much instruction. When she comes in, she goes right to work."

aylor is diagnosed with cerebral palsy. October is Disability Employment Awareness Month and Florida's Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) is highlighting the contributions of people with disabilities to the workforce.

Taylor's job responsibilities include unpacking new clothing by ripping off the protective plastic covering used in shipping, then putting it on hangers. She ensures all the merchandise is ready to go onto the showroom floor.

"I like what I do and enjoy interacting with my co-workers," says Taylor. "Marshall's is a good employer of people with disabilities. Everyone is very nice and helpful there."

O'Toole says, "Pamela is very dependable. I can't recall if she has ever called in sick. She's also willing to work whatever schedule that she is assigned."

APD provides Taylor with several services such as support coordination, dental services, and supported living coaching. Her positive attitude and ability to be independent allowed her to purchase her own apartment earlier this year.

Working gives Taylor a great feeling of professional accomplishment." I feel I have a fulfilling career at Marshall's," she says.

APD supports people with developmental disabilities to live, learn, and work in their communities. For more information about the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, visit www.apdcares.org or call toll-free 1- 866-APD-CARES (1-866-273-2273).
