Sunland Marianna > Quality Improvement

Sunland's Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement approach is one driven by the Total Quality management (TQM) module. The Quality Improvement Team consists of three individuals trained by a nationally recognized consulting firm, Competitive Technologies International, Inc., in the principles and approaches of Total Quality Management. The team consists of three certified "Application Specialists" that serve as internal TQM consultants with one serving as the Risk Manager.

The coordination of Strategic Planning is a primary responsibility of Quality Improvement. Internal Performance Reviews are held quarterly to keep the Superintendent and Leadership Team members apprised of the status of strategic objectives identified for the facility.

Sunland Center utilizes the Personal Outcome Measures (POM) developed by The Council on Quality and Leadership in Supports for People with Disabilities (The Council) as the primary measurement tool for evaluating services to the individuals we serve. Resultant data from the POM interviews serves as the measure for improving the quality of life for the people served at Sunland. Utilization of the POM supports Sunland's efforts toward the full deployment of person centered planning in our service delivery system. Currently, Sunland has two (2) certified trainers who are certified by The Council and are responsible for conducting interviews and providing collected data for legislative review.

Currently, there are four monitoring teams, which conduct annual monitoring in the three licensed residential units. Each of the teams is comprised of QI team members as well as key staff from each of the residential units. The purpose of the monitoring is to provide external oversight and feedback to the Superintendent and Program Operations Administrators (unit directors) on components of the active treatment process and/or areas targeted for concern as a result of previous State or Federal surveys.
