Sunland's Staff Development Department, operating under the Quality Improvement Team, provides training to more than 850 employees, both new and veteran staff. New employees complete an intensive orientation period that prepares them for their new career at Sunland and the Agency for Persons with Disabilities. Veteran staff receive yearly up-dates on all Agency and State required training. Additional courses offered are geared toward enhancing employees' skills in providing quality services and supports to Sunland's residents.
All classes are open, at no charge, to community providers from Jackson and surrounding counties, such as the Association for Retarded Citizens, group home and supported living staff, volunteer groups and community APD and DCF staff.
Continuing education units (CEU's) are provided for nurses. Satellite seminars are utilized to provide quality training from a variety of sources.
Evaluations from customers are consistently rated excellent.
