 Here in North Florida, I have gladly noticed the crisp fall air that welcomes me each morning when I walk outside to come to work at the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). November is the time of year when we honor our veterans, then later in the month we fill our bellies with delicious food when we commemorate the first Thanksgiving in America.

 Companies Honored as Exceptional Employers | |
| Ten businesses that hire people with disabilities were recognized by the state of Florida on October 5 for being exceptional employers of people with disabilities. The businesses from around the state were honored with a plaque made by people with disabilities. |

 White Cane Day | |
| The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) participated in White Cane Day sponsored by the Division of Blind Services, in partnership with the Florida State University College of Education on October 13 in Tallahassee. |

Employment Conference | |
| APD provided multiple presentations at the Partners for Progress conference in Orlando held in October. The conference was held by Residential Options of Florida (ROOF) and Florida Employment of People with Supported Employment (APSE). |

 Double Decades | |
| Paul Christian and Donnie Buist have both celebrated a major employment milestone with TSE Industries of Clearwater. Christian and Buist each have more than 10 years working with the company. |

 The Northwest Region Celebrates DEAM | |
| Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM) month activities were ongoing during the month of October throughout the Northwest Region. On October 5, two individuals were chosen to represent the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) and share their employment success stories at the Exceptional Employers Celebration in Tallahassee. |

 Bay County Celebrates Disability Mentoring Day | |
| Students and adults with disabilities from Bay County celebrated DEAM/DMD (Disability Mentoring Day) on October 19. Approximately 78 participants from six different schools spent the morning shadowing at a local business of their choice. |

 Sunland Center Celebrates 38th Annual Fall Festival | |
| Saturday, October 29, was a beautiful Fall day, providing the perfect atmosphere for Sunland Center’s 38th Annual Fall Festival. The weather could not have been more perfect starting off with the brisk, cool morning, beautiful blue skies, and the warmth of the afternoon sun. Superintendent Geri Williams and the Sunland staff were especially pleased with the turnout. |

 Jackson County School at Sunland Reveals Mascot | |
| The Jackson County School at Sunland has named a mascot—the Sonics. On October 20, JCS Principal Tim Baggett and his staff hosted a mascot reveal ceremony at the school, which is located on the Sunland campus. |

 Workshop Held on Social Security, the ABLE Act, and Guardian Advocacy | |
| The Area One Family Care Council facilitated a workshop for families and providers on Social Security benefits, the ABLE Act, and Guardian Advocacy at the Escambia Westgate School in Pensacola on October 18. |

 YES! FAIR | |
| Suncoast APD and FCC East attended the annual YES! F.A.I.R. in Hillsborough County on October 1. The F.A.I.R. continues to lead as one of the Largest Disability Education & Awareness Events in Tampa Bay. |

| On September 17, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital held a Children with Special Needs Resource Fair in Davie. Plenty of information was available to parents and families, while activities and entertainment were provided for the children. |

 Hurricanes Vs. Tar Heels Football Game | |
| The University of Miami Hurricanes faced off against the University of North Carolina Tar Heels on October 15. It promised to be an exciting and nail biting game. Darrell Parrish and Michael Vadurro, both APD customers and guests of the University of Miami were eagerly awaiting this long anticipated outing. |

 Dolphins Fanatics | |
| On October 23, the Miami Dolphins took the field at Hard Rock Stadium against the mighty Buffalo Bills. This was going to be a tough game, but the Miami Dolphins had their #1 fans in the stands to cheer them on. |
