Mock Interviews and Transition Services Fair Held in Pensacola

Martha Dancy-Daniel and Annette Zeeb with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) Northwest Region participated in the Transition Services Information Fair sponsored by the Escambia County School District Exceptional Student Education Department held on March 6 at Marcus Pointe in Pensacola. APD recruited 20 employers to provide 256 interviews to students with disabilities. After the short interview, employers provided feedback on first impression, resume, professional dress, general attitude, content of answers, and speaking abilities. Vocational Rehabilitation counselors facilitated the timing and flow of the interviews. Information about APD services and variety of community resources was shared with parents, teachers, and students. The event provided a great opportunity for employers to meet our students, guiding them in the right direction for potential employment options. The employers and students left the event feeling good about the experience. The collaboration between the Tri-County school transition team, vocational rehabilitation team, Florida Diagnostic & Learning Resources System (FDLRS) staff, APD, and the Marcus Pointe staff made for a successful event.

Representatives from Escambia County Schools, Hampton Inn Pensacola Beach, Naval Air Station, Goodwill Easterseals, Landrum Human Resources, Florida Blue, Global Connections to Employment, TEL Staffing & HR, Emerald Coast Utilities Authority, Red Lobster, and Publix, who participated in the mock interviews.
