Job-a-Palooza Held in Tallahassee
By Akeyria` EdwardsJob-a-Palooza is an annual event where local and surrounding area youth with varying disabilities can learn and demonstrate new job skills and make new connections. On March 10, members of the Waiting List and Community Affairs workstream had an opportunity to represent APD at this fun-filled and educational event hosted by The Arc and Vocational Rehabilitation.
This year's Job-a-Palooza, held at Leon High School, was well-attended and lively. The participating individuals were engaged in the various tasks provided by the businesses represented. APD offered participants the chance to learn and complete an office task. The participants’ accompanying mentors supported each participant in completing the tasks as quickly and as accurately as possible. Competitors worked diligently to learn the new skill and demonstrate their mastery of it through a fun and friendly competition. The highest scoring participants received awards at the event’s conclusion.
This was an unforgettable experience which encouraged participants to explore their unique abilities. It bridged the communication gap between businesses and young adults with disabilities.
