Tacachale Dental Clinic Director Named National Health Equity Hero

Tacachale Dental Clinic Director Timothy Garvey, D.M.D, has been named a 2020 DentaQuest Health Equity Hero. The program celebrates and promotes individuals who are going above and beyond to expand access to equitable oral care and health care, especially in underserved communities. Dr. Garvey is one of 12 Health Equity Heroes from all over the country recognized this year.

Along with this honor comes a $5,000 donation to the winner’s preferred charity. Dr. Garvey selected FreeD.O.M. Clinic USA to receive the donation. The nonprofit provides free dental services for Marion County residents who could not otherwise afford them. These services include dental examination, X-ray, cleaning, filling, extraction, and oral hygiene education.

APD Director Barbara Palmer said, “Congratulations, Dr. Garvey, and thank you for your caring heart and dedicated service. This Health Equity Hero award is well-deserved!”

Dr. Garvey has worked at Tacachale for more than 30 years. He is also on the faculty at the University of Florida College of Dentistry. He earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from UF.
