Direct Support Professionals Week

Governor Ron DeSantis declared September 13-19 as Direct Support Professionals Week (see proclamation here). The Agency for Persons with Disabilities appreciates its Direct Support Professionals who work hard to serve our customers.

“We are excited to celebrate and show our appreciation for the tireless work that direct support professionals provide every day. Direct support professionals are vital to enhancing the lives of Floridians with unique abilities. They deliver a continuum of care to individuals with disabilities both in state and community facilities. APD has more than 1,500 direct support professionals working at the state’s three centers in Gainesville, Chattahoochee, and Marianna. Direct support professionals work hard every day performing critical services to ensure that individuals remain safe and connected to their communities. Their dedicated service helps individuals have meaningful and productive lives,” said APD Director Barbara Palmer.

The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program in Chattahoochee and Pathways in Marianna approached their respective Board of  County Commissioners for Gadsden County (DDDP) and Jackson County (Pathways & Sunland) to recognize the pride, passion, and performance of each of the direct support professionals within their community. Both the Gadsden and Jackson Board of County Commissioners gladly proclaimed a week in September “Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week” in their counties.

“WHEREAS, because of the direct support professionals unwavering commitment to their clients with disabilities during this COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, these individuals continue to ensure individuals with unique abilities thrive by providing long-term support and services.”

To all Direct Support Professionals that work for the Agency for Persons with Disabilities at DDDP in Chattahoochee, Pathways and Sunland in Marianna, and Tacachale in Gainesville thank you for your dedication and continued services for Florida’s most vulnerable population during these most challenging times.
