ACE Summer Institute Tour

On July 13, many state and local leaders took a tour of the Leon County Schools Adult & Community Education (ACE) Summer Institute. The program is for students with disabilities to teach them the skills needed to eventually go to work. The 50 students learn social skills in addition to job skills.

State Representative Allison Tant spearheaded the tour. Some of the attendees included Florida School Superintendents Association Executive Director Bill Montford, Florida Developmental Disabilities Council Legislative Affairs Director Margaret Hooper, Florida Council for Independent Living Executive Director Jane Johnson, FAAST Director Whitney Harris, Leon County Schools Superintendent Rocky Hanna, and many others. Abut 40 people toured the facility located at 526 Appleyard Drive in Tallahassee.

Speakers shared information about the first few weeks of the program with attendees. Then smaller groups went into the classrooms to see the four different classes in operation.
