New Qualified Organization Law Begins July 1, 2021

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) has been working hard to implement the various aspects of a new law that impacts several areas of agency operation. It is important for agency customers and families to understand the various requirements of the new statute. APD has created a short video that explains the qualified organizations law. Please watch it here or visit APDcares.org website and a link is on the homepage.

The operational changes must be finished when the law goes into effect on July 1, 2021. The law—Chapter 65G-14, Florida Administrative Code, Qualified Organizations and Waiver Support Coordination—requires WSCs to join a qualified organization to deliver services to APD customers, in addition to other requirements. This change will provide certainty and uniformity across the state.

Although much work is being done to ensure the transition of WSCs into qualified organizations, there may be a few WSCs who decide not to continue working with the iBudget Florida waiver and its customers. If that occurs, the local APD Regional Office will provide the impacted families with a list of qualified WSCs so they may select another WSC to serve them.
