Family Care Council Florida Hosts September Council Meeting
Representatives from the Family Care Councils gathered in Orlando for the Family Care Council Florida (FCCF) meeting on September 13 and 14. On Monday, council members met with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) Director Barbara Palmer and staff who updated the council on various projects such as the waiting list to waiver offers, Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP), Waiver Support Coordinator Scorecard, and CDC Plus. On Tuesday, the meeting began with a detailed presentation on the roles and responsibilities of the Qualified Organizations and Waiver Support Coordinators by APD Chief of Provider Supports Lynne Daw.
Council members also met with the new Chief Executive Officer for The Arc of Florida, Alan Abramowitz. Abramowitz began working at The Arc of Florida on June 1. Prior to this, Abramowitz served as the Executive Director of the Florida Statewide Guardian Ad Litem Office, as well as served in various leadership positions at the Department of Children and Families and the Department of Juvenile Justice.
The meeting also included time with Valerie Breen, Executive Director of the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council (FDDC). Breen presented the FDDC’s Five-Year Plan for 2022-2026 which goes into effect on October 1. The FDDC is an advisory board created to promote policies and practices for Floridians with developmental disabilities. The five-year plan is broken into five priority areas that focus on access to services, home and community-based delivery systems, aging caregivers, self-advocacy leadership, and broad systems change and emerging needs. A copy of the plan is available on the FDDC website at www.fddc.org.
