Family Initiative, Inc. of Southwest Florida

Following Hurricane Ian, Family Initiative of Cape Coral found ways to help the community, especially families with children who have autism.

Without power, they opened their doors at the Cape Coral facility to provide shelter for staff displaced by the storm. They also established a distribution center for resources in the area. Staff visited families with food and other goods in their homes.

They provided childcare so that families knew their children were safe and they could focus on recovery.

During that time Department of Children and Families Secretary Shevaun Harris visited and designated the facility as a family resource center. Also, Speaker Renner, Representative Jenna Persons-Mulicka, Representative Mike Giollombardo, and several local officials visited and helped distribute food and other supplies.

Families and the community leaders hosted a fundraiser for Family Initiative at a local hotel that had recently reopened. At that event, they raised over $100,000 to support the charity and children with autism in Southwest Florida.
