APD Attends the Florida Children and Families Summit
The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) hosted a leadership meeting in Orlando in August for the first time since the pandemic. APD Regional Operations Managers got in person updates from State Office managers on ongoing agency issues and projects. APD held a joint meeting with the Florida Hospital Association. Director Barbara Palmer sat on a panel with Department of Children and Families Secretary Shevaun Harris, Agency for Healthcare Administration Secretary Simone Marstiller, and Department of Juvenile Justice Secretary Eric Hall, to discuss issues affecting children in Community Based Care.
Many APD employees also attended the Florida Children and Families Summit, held at the JW Marriott Hotel in Orlando from August 31 to September 2. Featured speakers included Department of Children and Families Secretary Shevaun L. Harris and Strategic Consultant and Program Officer Adrian McLemore.
The summit is the largest child well-being event held annually in Florida, bringing together thousands of child welfare professionals, foster families, advocates, and community organizations who share the same vision for a stronger, more resilient Florida where families and children can thrive. Over 3,000 child welfare professionals and related partners gathered at the three-day conference that provided opportunities for individuals to further their passion of supporting children and families through educational presentations, networking opportunities, and much more.
