Connecting the Dots Conference is Back!
The Area 4 Family Care Council is excited to announce the return of its annual Connecting the Dots conference. This year’s event will be held on October 21 at the Church of Eleven22 in Jacksonville. The conference will feature keynote speaker Shelley Gottsagen and her son Zackary, an award-winning actor, and star of the 2019 independent film, The Peanut Butter Falcon.
Zack was the first child with Down syndrome to be fully included in the Palm Beach County school district. He graduated as a theatre major from Dreyfoos School of the Arts. After the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed, Zack filed one of the first ADA lawsuits that successfully challenged Little League to include children with disabilities, requiring all coaches in the United States to receive inclusion training.
The conference will also include community resource vendors and breakout sessions highlighting a variety of topics such as independent living, the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD), mental health, sibling support, behaviors, Individualized Education Plan (IEP), future planning, Social Security, legal ways of protecting rights, housing options, and more.
The registration fee is $15, which includes breakfast snacks and a boxed lunch. Registration is free to Active Military Families with an ID Card. They are also offering sponsorships if requested by email at ask@arcjacksonville.org.
