Sunland Center Residents Give Back

In April 2016, the Faith Used in Everyday Life (FUEL) program was created for Sunland residents to provide an avenue for residents to give back to the community.

When residents were asked, “Is there anything you haven’t done that you would like to do?” we were blown away by their answers. One resident said, “I would like to go to Connally Manor and visit the residents who cannot get out and get around.” Another said, “I would like to go to Thiel Center and visit and sing with the residents there.” Yet another response, “I have been homeless and out on the streets. I have been hungry, and I know what it’s like. I would like to do food drives.”

The overwhelming theme was a spirit of community. These precious residents wanted to serve others!

With full hearts and an enthusiasm to help, the FUEL team went to work. They organized food drives, visited Sunland residential homes, and delivered stuffed animals to the Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center, as well as the Courtyard at The Mill Pond. The FUEL team also collected full Thanksgiving dinners for those in need and participated in food drives for Chipola Ministries and Habitat for Humanity.

The team’s most recent mission has been collecting aluminum can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. On March 14, FUEL team members delivered a large donation of tabs to the Tallahassee location. Staff members were so thankful and appreciative of the donation, and the spirit in which it was given. FUEL team members were so proud to make the delivery and make a difference. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience of serving others and can’t wait for their next good deed! Way to go, team!
