Shared Ride Services Provide Positive Experience for Users

By Dwayne Jones

On December 29, 2022, Northwest Region Supported Employment Liaison Dwayne Jones participated in a three-hour ride-along with ITL Solutions, the community transportation disadvantaged service provider for Escambia County. Jones was introduced to the entire crew by ITL Solutions General Manager Yolanda Cooper. He also received a tour of the internal operation of the company. Jones then met the bus driver named John. Three individuals were scheduled and picked up during the ride-along. John was in uniform, wore his name tag, and was on time for each pickup. He was very professional and helped passengers in and out as needed.

The Transportation Disadvantaged Program is a coordinated state-wide effort that groups riders together for a shared ride service, enhancing the experience of the rider. Transportation services are available in all 67 Florida counties for those who are eligible and have no access to transportation. Federal, state and local agencies join together to provide necessary transportation for medical appointments, employment, education, and other life sustaining services.

To apply for services with the Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged in your area, contact your county’s Community Transportation Coordinator via  CTC_Directory_by_County.pdf (fdot.gov).
