Artist Stakes Claim at Roadhouse

By Tim Brown

Harrison Moore is a young man of many talents. From art to helping at home, you will find Moore participating in something different each day.

Moore can be found on Thursdays and Fridays at Texas Roadhouse doing prep work in the kitchen. He is also in charge of packaging utensils, napkins, and dressings for take-out orders. He has been employed by the restaurant since September 2021 and enjoys going to work.

“It makes me feel really useful,” Moore said. “I like to work on getting the napkins folded with the silverware and measure out the dressings for the night at the restaurant. It makes me feel like I am helping.”

“It’s been a pleasure having him here every Thursday and Friday morning,” Texas Roadhouse Managing Partner Joel Atkins said. “I really appreciate Harrison’s hard work and dedication.”

Moore has a developmental disability and receives services from the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD).

On Mondays and Wednesdays Moore can be found working on paintings for the Autism Society of Greater Orlando. His artwork is then sold to raise funds for himself and for the organization.

“Harrison has been creating canvas paintings of all sizes using watercolor and acrylic paint,” Autism Society Art Director Day R. said. “Autism Art has special events all over Orlando throughout the year to sell his and other students’ work. This is one of the ways Harrison helps contribute towards his family while learning a creative trait and lifelong skill.”

Moore used his artistic skills to produce a large painting of the Texas Roadhouse logo for the restaurant. The artwork received rave reviews and now resides in the waiting area along with a photo of Moore and his supervisor.

“He has his own artistic style and enjoys creating paintings,” his mother, Susan Andersen Moore said. “He really likes to be useful and does his part helping at home with the chores. Harrison loves his family and enjoys his freedom to vote, making choices about his day, working at Texas Roadhouse, and creating his art.”

“I like to make my paintings and show them to people. It makes me feel very proud that I am making something of my own. I like working with my friends,” Moore said.

In his spare time, Moore enjoys all things Disney, going to the movies, and riding the SunRail commuter train around Orlando with his father. He is excited to ride the link to Miami from Orlando International Airport, scheduled to open later this year.
