Clean Sweep

PENSACOLA, FL – After three years of working as a lobby attendant, Mark Hartley still enjoys his job at McDonald’s Restaurant, located at 2711 Old Chemstrand Road in Pensacola. This location happens to be one of the busiest businesses in Pensacola, and Hartley is up to the challenge.

This is Hartley’s first job, and he is making the most of the opportunity. He ensures that the lobby is clean for customers. He disinfects tables, cleans the drink area, mops and sweeps the floor, cleans the men’s restroom, washes windows, and disinfects door handles.

Hartley said, “I love working here. I like to be out with people. I have friends and like my boss.”

Hartley’s supervisor feels similarly. Manager Chad Kelly said, “Mark is hard-working and willing to learn. He is always working to keep the dining area clean. He is positive and upbeat. The customers love him, and we do too.”

Hartley has a developmental disability and receives services from the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and APD is highlighting its customers’ workplace achievements.

Kelly says that they have made a few accommodations for Hartley just like they would do for any employee.

When not working, Hartley participates in the Miracle League baseball program. He also likes to take walks for exercise and play with his dog.
