Root puts Target customers first

By Melanie Mowry Etters

Danny Root's meticulous and thorough methods make him a huge asset to the Tallahassee Target store where he works.

Root's motto is "It is all about taking care of the guests." He is also flexible enough to handle whatever challenge presents itself.

Some of his duties include cashier, spill-station captain, cart attendant and maintenance.

Root's primary work assignment is in the garden center.

"Danny is an outstanding employee. He is wonderful. He likes everything perfect and is good with our guests," said Ashley Meiners, executive team leader.

Root has a disability and receives services from Florida's Agency for Persons with Disabilities.

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month. APD is highlighting the contributions of people with disabilities to the work force.

"I concentrate on doing the best I can do. The guests come first. I try to make an impact and be an example," Root says.

Although Target would like Root to work more hours, he is dedicated to several other employers who are close friends.

He works at Coosh's Bayou Rouge and Beef O'Brady's restaurants. He also volunteers helping the football coach at Chiles High School.

He got a driver's license four years ago, and can be seen driving his Jeep to all his various commitments.

"Danny is dedicated. He seeks other opportunities. He likes to work in other areas of the store. Danny is an all-around great team member," Meiners said.

APD supports people with developmental disabilities to live, learn and work in their communities. The agency annually serves about 35,000 Floridians with developmental disabilities. For more information about the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, visit APDcares.org.
