Sunland: Family Day allows our residents an opportunity to visit with family and friends in a relaxed setting where everyone can enjoy a day of food, fun and fellowship. There are plenty of activities to participate in and great door prizes. You will have an opportunity to become familiar with various on-center programs and services that are provided to our residents, and also meet some of our staff. Family Day is held at the Sunland Environmental Park unless otherwise specified in the notifications that are mailed out. This event grows each year, and is expected to continue to grow in the years to come. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Social Services Department at (850) 482-9268 or 9273.
Forensic Services / Developmental Disability Defendant Program (DDDP): DDDP Family Day has been very successful and the number of visitors has steadily increased in the past several years. We are excited to host this annual event as it provides us an opportunity to showcase our facilities and programs. It also affords our residents an opportunity to visit with family/friends in a relaxed and informal setting and enjoy a fun-filled day.
Sunland DDDP residents and staff have been very successful in going Tobacco-Free. We ask that you do not bring tobacco products or use them while on the hospital grounds. No firearms or weapons are permitted on the hospital grounds. Additionally, visitors must be aware that opened toe shoes and illegal substances are prohibited. Anyone on the hospital grounds is subject to being searched at any time.
A designated parking area located at the main entrance of the Hospital will be available for visitors. Shuttle service is available from the designated parking area for transporting visitors between the hours of 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All visitors and guests are expected to adhere to the following guidelines as this is a secure facility and the safety and well-being of residents and guests cannot be compromised. The Sunland Fall Festival is an annual event held at Sunland Environmental Park the last Saturday of October. Festivities begin at 9:00 A.M. CST followed by a day full of activities, food and fun which concludes around 3:00 P.M. CST. Over 100 vendors participate each year. The list and types of vendors continue to expand. The vendors offer a variety of items for sale, such as paintings, arts and crafts, clothing, handbags, jewelry, wood working and yard art products, pottery, plants and gifts.
With family, friends, volunteers, vendors and the general public, Sunland has thousands to stroll through the park for this day of fun.
Entertainment with more than 12 different groups performing throughout the day. Entertainment includes gospel music, country music, elementary school chorus, gymnastics group, Sunland Swingers (Square dance group) and various performances by Sunland residents.
Sunland is a proud participant of the Special Olympics. The Special Olympics holds many events which include but are not limited to: Basketball, Bowling, Softball, Aquatics and Equestrian. Many of our residents have participated in and have won medals for achieving their goals in the events. The Special Olympics is year round for sports training and competitions.
