Into the Fold for 28 Years

Jensen Beach, Fla.– Rebecca Potvin has the honor of being the longest serving employee of Florida Linen Services of Jensen Beach. Potvin has been on the job for 28 years as a Laundry Assistant. Her specialty is folding baby blankets and baby gowns. She has her own workstation.

Potvin said, “I really love my job and what I do. I need the money to pay bills. I like to come to work to see my coworkers. We help each other out.”

Potvin receives services from the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and APD is highlighting the workplace achievements of people with developmental disabilities.

Supervisor Joe Hall thinks the world of Potvin. Hall said, “Rebecca is dependable. She shows up for work on time, every day. She is always in good spirits. Rebecca brings personality to the team.”

Hall says that he puts Rebecca where she is most comfortable, and she is very productive. He adds she possesses a positive attitude, has extreme attention to detail, and is very helpful and willing to help her coworkers.

Potvin lives near Florida Linen Services and walks to and from work each day, no matter what the weather is like. She lives with her sister and three dogs. Her income is supporting the family because her sister currently is not able to work. The family moved to Florida from Massachusetts in 1982. Unfortunately, Potvin’s father passed away a few years ago leaving the two sisters at home together.

Potvin says having a job makes her happy. It allows her to have time apart from her sister which is good for both of them. She says when she is not working, she likes to walk her dogs in the park and shop for clothes and shoes.

APD supports people with developmental disabilities to live, learn, and work in their communities. The agency annually serves more than 55,000 Floridians with autism, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, intellectual disabilities, Down syndrome, Phelan-McDermid syndrome, and Prader-Willi syndrome.
