Mental Health Resources
Many people ask ‘What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?’ A psychologist typically has a doctoral level education and is licensed by the state in which they practice. Psychologists in Florida do not prescribe medications. A psychiatrist typically has a medical degree (M.D.) or doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) and prescribes medications for psychological conditions.
Whether you see a psychologist, psychiatrist, therapist, or counselor, these clinicians should be licensed by the state where you reside. Click here to verify licensure in Florida: https://mqa-internet.doh.state.fl.us/MQASearchServices/HealthCareProviders.
