Medication Administration Trainer Training
Instructions
This course is taught in either an in-person or virtual learning environment, with online testing through TRAIN Florida. Prior to taking the class with your Regional Medical Case Manager (MCM) you will need to do the following:
- Fill out the "Medication Administration Trainer Form" and submit it to your Regional MCM, making sure to include a copy of your nursing license.
- If you DO NOT have a TRAIN Florida account, you will need to download and fill in the Learner Batch Spreadsheet - Instructions. Send it to apd.lmssupport@apdcares.org to create your TRAIN Florida account. Do not do this if you already have a TRAIN Florida account, to avoid creating multiple accounts for one learner. TRAIN Florida will notify you when your account is created. This usually takes 5-7 days. You will need this account to schedule your training session and to access the exam for the Initial Trainer Training.
- The documents and handouts you will need have been posted below for you to download. You may keep many of these in electronic format if you wish, as long as you can access them quickly when you need them. However, you will need to print 65G-7, the Trainer Training handout, the Authorization form, the Controlled Medication Count form, the Medication Error Report form, and several front and back copies of the MAR form if you are taking a class in a virtual learning environment.
- It will be helpful for you to read the How to use the APD Medication Administration Record (MAR) document before class and to familiarize yourself with the APD MAR form that is provided, as well as the controlled count instructions and form. Students who have reviewed these before class generally have a better grasp on the in-class instruction that is provided on these two forms.
- To register for a specific session of this course you must:
- Go to TRAIN Florida online and search for the course by name (APD – 65G-7 Medication Administration Trainer Training – Classroom)
- Register for the session you plan to attend. You must register for a session that is being offered by the APD Medical Case Managers (MCMs) in your local Region, unless you have specific permission from a different Region to attend their training.
- When you finish the classroom portion of the training your Regional MCM will give you the course code for the TRAIN Florida course and exam. To take the exam, you must:
- Go to TRAIN Florida online and search for the course by name (APD – 65G-7 Medication Administration Trainer Training - Exam) or course code 1093550.
- Register for the course using the access code you were given by the MCM
- The TRAIN Florida system will automatically send you the instructions you will need to proceed to the exam.
- When you have finished the exam, you MUST take the course assessment in the same session in order to have TRAIN record that you have finished the course.
