DDDP and Pathways
The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program (DDDP) and Pathways serve individuals with intellectual disabilities or autism who are charged with committing a felony crime and deemed incompetent to stand trial. In this program, residents with a secure court order receive competency training and other services in accordance with their needs.
DDDP
The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program (DDDP) is a 146-bed secure facility located in Chattahoochee, Florida, on the Florida State Hospital campus, serving co-ed residents committed under Florida Statutes 916 and 393. DDDP provides behavioral, medical, psychological, trial competency, rehabilitation, and vocational training services.
Pathways
Pathways is a 34-bed facility located in Marianna, Florida, on the Sunland campus, serving residents committed under Florida Statute 393. Pathways is a behavioral modification program in which residents are provided with a secure setting to receive rehabilitation and vocational training.
Services
DDDP and Pathways offer a variety of individualized resident services that help provide social and behavioral training while preparing residents for success as they transition to a less restrictive environment in the community.
Behavioral Services
Develops and implements individual behavioral plans, manages reactive strategies, and provides oversight to resident level-system(s).
Programming Services
Trial competency, vocational training, and rehabilitation training offer resident courses and skills acquisition.
Medical/Nursing Services
Ensures nursing presence and medical care to residents at all facilities, 24 hours a day.
Psychological Services
Conducts forensic evaluations and provides courts with findings.
Psychiatric Services
Focuses on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
Social Services
Serves as a liaison between the court system and the families of residents and provides oversight for multidisciplinary support team.
Residential Care Services
Provides supervision of daily living activities to residents 24 hours a day.
Resident Advocacy Services
Provides immediate support and services to residents as needed, or upon request, and ensures resident rights are protected.
Trial Competency Education Services
Goals of competency restoration:- To provide the resident with accurate and relevant information about the criminal justice system
- To set social and behavioral expectations for the resident’s cooperation and participation in the criminal justice system
- To monitor progress in stabilization of the resident’s presenting issues
- To monitor progress in ability to understand the criminal justice system
- To assist the rest of the Service Team in narrowing the issues relevant to competency in each resident’s case
Resident Advocate Services
What is a Resident Advocate?
A Resident Advocate serves as an advocate for residents concerning their quality of life, treatment, and legal rights. The Resident Advocate ensures issues surfaced are addressed promptly and advocates to improve services to the residents and increase resident satisfaction with services at DDDP and Pathways.
Resident Opportunities (Rehabilitation and Vocational Training)
The rehabilitation and vocational opportunities offer a variety of activities and classes that will help residents prepare to transition back into the community.
Life Skills with Emphasis on Social Skills
Residents learn and discuss skills needed to be successful at DDDP and their future environment. These skills include, but are not limited to, identifying behavior and expressions of others, how to control emotions, how to interview, increasing positive vocabulary, how to interact with members of the community, and more.
Life Skills with Emphasis on Educational Skills
Residents learn basic academic skills needed to better equip them to communicate and function more effectively in the community. These skills include math, reading, writing, science, social studies geography, and more.Fitness
The residents have set workout plans that they can utilize to maintain a healthy lifestyle once they transition into the community.
Recreation
Residents enjoy leisure activities such as playing cards, dominoes, basketball, ping pong, checkers, video games, etc.
Current Events
Residents learn about current events happening in the world such as news, events, weather, politics, etc.
Music Appreciation
Residents learn how music can assist in recovery goals and developing new horizons.
Visitation Information
Upon admission to DDDP/Pathways, Social Services staff will meet with the resident and identify who they would like to have as a contact person and who they would like to have visit them during their stay at DDDP/Pathways.
Once the resident signs a release of information allowing contact with these individuals, contact is made, and a visitation packet is mailed to them. Included in the packet is information about DDDP/Pathways, and our policy on visitation, and an application for visitation. Once the individual is approved by security, they can contact Social Services staff to arrange a visit.
Visitation hours at both facilities are Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and then again from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Mail Call
Residents committed to DDDP under Florida Statute 393 and 916 are not allowed to receive incoming mail from family members, friends, or other community entities in postal envelopes that are larger than 12 ½ x 9 ½ inches.
