Family Care Councils
About the FCCs
In 1993, the Florida Legislature created the Family Care Councils (Section 393.502, Florida Statutes) in each service area of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). There are 15 local Family Care Councils (FCCs) throughout the state. Each council consists of individuals with disabilities, as well as parents, siblings, grandparents, and legal guardians of individuals who qualify for APD services.
For more than 30 years, council members have encouraged and educated individuals with disabilities and their families about services and resources in Florida that may assist them in living meaningful and integrated lives in their community. Their knowledge of government and community programs has been an asset to Floridians with developmental disabilities, families, providers, stakeholders, and families relocating to Florida.
Families are encouraged to get involved with their local FCC. Councils host monthly meetings to keep members and families up to date on programs, services, and community resources that benefit Floridians with unique abilities. Families can attend the FCC meetings virtually or in-person.
