Exceptional Employers to be Recognized

Celebrating Disability Employment Awareness Month

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD), Blind Services, and Vocational Rehabilitation will host the 15th annual Exceptional Employer Awards on October 14 at 10 a.m.

The state will recognize six businesses as Florida Exceptional Employers for hiring and retaining employees who have disabilities. The public and media may access the virtual awards ceremony at

Department of Economic Opportunity Director Dane Eagle will speak during the ceremony. Also, Florida Linen Services of Jensen Beach employee Rebecca Potvin, Florida Bar of Tallahassee employee Mingdee Hou, and Radiology Associates of Tallahassee employee Reagan Brown will share what having a job means to them. Event sponsors are The Able Trust and RESPECT of Florida.

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month. Throughout October, APD, Vocational Rehabilitation, Blind Services, and its partner agencies will be promoting the valuable skills individuals with disabilities contribute to the workforce.

APD supports people with developmental disabilities to live, learn, and work in their communities. The agency annually serves more than 55,000 Floridians with autism, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, intellectual disabilities, Down syndrome, Phalen-McDermid syndrome, and Prader-Willi syndrome.
