Waiver Support Coordination
“Waiver Support Coordinator” or “WSC” means an employee of a qualified organization as defined in Section 393.0663, F.S., who is selected by the client or the client’s legal representative to assist the client and family in identifying their capacities, needs, and resources; finding and gaining access to necessary supports and services; coordinating the delivery of supports and services; advocating on behalf of the client and family; maintaining relevant records; and monitoring and evaluating the delivery of supports and services to determine the extent to which they meet the needs and expectations identified by the client, family, and others who participated in the development of the support plan with person-centered planning.
Waiver support coordination provides significant support to a recipient to ensure the recipient’s health, safety, and well-being. The WSC can share tasks with the recipient and the recipient’s family, or other support persons as they desire or need, but ultimately the WSC must be responsible for performing all tasks required to locate, select, and coordinate services and supports, whether paid with waiver funds or through other resources.

Waiver Support Coordinators must:
- Be 18 years or older
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Have two years of paid, supervised experience in developmental disabilities, special education, mental health, counseling, guidance, social work, or health and rehabilitative services
- A master’s degree in a related field can substitute for one year of the required experience
Supervisors and designated mentors of a Qualified Organization (QO) shall meet the minimum qualifications outlined in Rules 65G-14.002 and 65G-14.0043, F.A.C.
Qualified Organization
“Qualified Organization” or “QO” means an organization that employs four or more waiver support coordinators and meets all specifications in s. 393.0663, F.S.; Rule Chapter 65G-14, F.A.C.; and the iBudget handbook. Qualified Organizations render support coordination services to recipients.
